The session

Lymphatic drainage massage

A gentle massage of light, slow strokes, done in a set order. It suits anyone who wants a quiet, easy session, and clients whose provider has given the go-ahead.

Your therapist works across the areas you choose, such as an arm and shoulder or a leg and foot. A sheet covers you, and only the part being worked on is uncovered.

  • 45, 60 or 90 minutes

  • Light pressure that stays light

  • Hands only, with little or no oil

How it runs

A session, step by step

  1. Start

    Step 1: You settle in

A few minutes to get comfortable on the table under the sheet. We ask about pressure and any area to avoid.

  2. Beginning

    Step 2: The first strokes

Light, slow strokes begin on the area you chose. You can ask for lighter or for a pause.

  3. Middle

    Step 3: The slow middle

The same strokes repeat in a steady rhythm. Talk if you like, or rest.

  4. End

    Step 4: Time to rest

A few quiet minutes at the end. Take your time sitting up, and have some water.

Pressure, covering and when to ask first

  • How pressure is set

We ask before we start and check again partway through. Tell us at any time to go lighter, or to pause.

  • How covering works

A sheet covers you the whole time. Only the part we are working on is uncovered, and it is covered again when we move on.

  • Who should ask first

If you are pregnant, have had surgery or are under a provider's care, ask your doctor or surgeon before you book. We do not diagnose, and we stop right away if anything feels wrong to you.

About this session

How is it different from a regular massage?

The touch is lighter and the rhythm slower. The hands move the skin rather than work into muscle, so the session feels quieter than a Swedish or deep tissue massage.

Who does the sessions?

Tracie Haines and Alfreda Wilkerson. Both are licensed massage therapists trained in manual lymphatic drainage.

Do I need to bring anything?

Nothing but yourself. If you are working with a provider, bring a note from them.

Choose a lymphatic session.

Forty-five minutes is a good first visit. Longer sessions are on the booking page.
